Why Summer is the Sweet Spot for Family Photos in Utah
And Why You Should Book Before School Starts
If you’ve ever tried to squeeze family photos into the chaos of fall — between school events, sports, and shorter days — you know how stressful it can be. That’s why I always recommend summer sessions when you can.
Summer is slower. It’s the season of late bedtimes, barefoot mornings, and letting routines soften. And that unhurried pace? It shows in your photos. The light lingers, the kids are less rushed, and there’s more time to settle in, explore, and play.
Morning sessions are cooler (and easier)
Utah summers can heat up, but mornings near the river are magic. The temps are cool, the light is soft and golden, and it’s the perfect way to start your day. Plus, your little ones are fresh, fed, and ready to run. We can wander near the water, let the kids splash a little, and capture the joy of childhood just as it is.
Nature is at its peak
Everything is lush and green, wildflowers are blooming, and the sun paints everything in gold. This is Utah at her prettiest — and it’s fleeting. By mid-September, the greens begin to fade and schedules start to fill.
Playful, relaxed sessions
Some of my favorite galleries come from summer sessions. There’s more space for movement, more spontaneity, and a little less pressure. We can slow down, lean into connection, and let the kids lead the way.
